HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — One of the largest oceanfront resorts on Hilton Head Island goes dark on Monday, Nov. 2, as The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa begins a $50 million overhaul that will keep its doors shut until about mid-April 2027.
The resort, at 2 Grasslawn Ave. near the island’s northern tip, covers 24 acres with 420 guest rooms, 32 of them suites. State workforce filings show the temporary shutdown will touch about 200 employees.
The project follows a recent refresh of the rooms and now turns to the rest of the property. Plans call for a new lobby that opens toward the ocean, five new places to eat and drink, a reworked events lawn and new boardrooms and meeting space.
The new food lineup includes Cordelia’s, a lobby lounge with ocean views; Breakwater Provisions for coffee and tea; Saltwater Social, serving low-country dishes; Port House for fine dining; and Shoreline, a poolside spot with counter service.
Stillwater, a new adults-only pool aimed at couples, joins the existing family pools. The Heavenly Spa will grow into a wider wellness area with a thermal circuit, infrared sauna, cold-plunge showers, a Tranquility Garden for classes and 11 treatment rooms in all, plus new gym gear such as Peloton bikes and a Pilates reformer.
General manager Markus Krebs said the spending is meant to keep what longtime guests like while drawing a new generation of visitors to the island.
