HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — A Hilton Head Island defender is headed to the beach in December: Seahawks linebacker Jayvin Risher landed a South all-star roster spot for the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl.
Fresh state lists name 88 graduating seniors drawn from 69 programs for the North-South showcase. Players will gather Dec. 12 on the Grand Strand for a midday kickoff at the Doug Shaw venue in Myrtle Beach. Electric co-ops have underwritten the matchup since 2013, and Mr. Football will be unveiled at the break after finalists drop on Oct. 30.
Risher is grouped with South linebackers from Summerville, North Augusta, Dillon, Lake View, Carvers Bay, Crestwood and Wando. The South side also lists signal-callers from Berkeley, Oceanside Collegiate and Camden, rounding out a roster heavy on Lowcountry and Pee Dee talent.
North picks lean toward the Upstate and Midlands, including players tied to Ridge View, Fountain Inn, Dutch Fork, Dorman, Byrnes and Greenville. The Touchstone game is one of two major senior all-star dates on the South Carolina calendar; Shrine Bowl selections were already public.
Hilton Head Island High School plays in Beaufort County School District. The December invitation puts a local defender on a statewide stage that gathers seniors from across South Carolina.
