History

Moss Creek has provided families a private Lowcountry club lifestyle for nearly 50 years — one of the first gated residential club communities established on the Bluffton side of the Hilton Head Island bridge. The community occupies over 1,000 acres along Mackay Creek, the tidal waterway that runs between Hilton Head Island and the mainland. Its two Fazio-designed golf courses — Devil's Elbow North (Tom Fazio) and Devil's Elbow South (George Fazio) — wind through maritime forest and along Mackay Creek's salt marshes, earning Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification in 2012. The Tom Fazio North Course layout meanders through ancient live oaks and views of the Intracoastal-connected waterway. In 2022, the National Wildlife Federation designated the entire community a Community Wildlife Habitat. Moss Creek's equestrian center is among the few in coastal South Carolina gated communities.
