History

Palmetto Hall Plantation was developed in the early 1990s as a private golf community on the northern end of Hilton Head Island, presenting itself through a dramatic antebellum-style brick entrance gate flanked by avenue oaks — an architectural nod to the lowcountry plantation tradition. The Arthur Hills Course, which opened in 1991, was built on the grounds of a former Civil War garrison and was immediately named one of Golf Digest's Top 10 New Courses in America; Golf Digest has since rated it 4 stars and listed it among best places to play. The Robert Cupp Course opened in 1993 to equally strong reviews — Cupp, named Golf World's Architect of the Year, designed a course that earned praise for its balance of challenge and playability. Both courses hold Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification. Palmetto Hall Golf & Country Club is managed by Heritage Golf Group.

Architecture & Housing Stock

Palmetto Hall Plantation is a private, gated community on the north end of Hilton Head Island, distinguished by its dramatic antebellum-style entrance gates and 36 holes of championship golf. The Arthur Hills Course (opened 1991) was built on the site of a Civil War garrison and was immediately named one of Golf Digest's Top 10 New Courses; the Robert Cupp Course (opened 1993) is a distinctive and innovative design praised for its flexibility and challenging shot values. Both courses hold Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status, reflecting the community's environmental stewardship. Membership in the Palmetto Hall Golf & Country Club is required in addition to POA dues, making this a golf-centric community for serious players. The community's location on the north end of the island — closest to the mainland bridge — makes it appealing to full-time residents.
