INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Los Angeles Rams shook off an empty first half and beat the Chargers 24-9 at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, with their defense supplying the takeaways that turned a crosstown game.
Justin Herbert threw two interceptions, one to Quentin Lake and one to Trent McDuffie, and those turnovers led to 10 of the Rams’ points. Lake’s came first, a 46-yard return to the Chargers 19 that produced a short Brandon McManus field goal for a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Chargers answered with three field goals to go up 9-3. The Rams had the ball only three times before the break, but a hurry-up touchdown march in the closing minutes of the second quarter gave them a 10-9 edge, and the Chargers never scored again.
Blake Corum then took over the first series of the third quarter. He carried four straight times for 32 yards and finished the drive with a 23-yard touchdown run. He ended with 73 yards on 11 carries, and Kyren Williams added 56 yards and a score on 16 attempts. It was the second straight home game in which the Rams did not allow a touchdown.
The Rams improved to 4-4 with a second straight win. The Chargers fell to 0-7. Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson left in the third quarter with a shoulder injury and was ruled out, and McDuffie hurt his back late in that quarter.
