BEAUFORT, S.C. — Beaufort Police Department officers tracked down two runaway piglets nicknamed Bacon Bits after the pair got loose in the city and led officers on a short foot chase.
The department posted video of the chase on its Facebook page. A resident filming the scene caught officers in uniform trying to catch up with the piglets as they darted along a local street.

In its caption, the Beaufort Police Department listed the suspects as Bacon Bits, the offense as fleeing and squealing, and the disposition as returned to their owners, adding that no ham was done. Officers Poulin and Barbery were thanked for the pursuit of what the department called little career cri-ham-inals.
Both piglets were safely captured and returned to their owner. No one was hurt during the chase, and the department said the animals were not injured.
The Beaufort Police Department handles day-to-day calls inside the city limits, a beat that more often covers traffic stops and downtown patrols than livestock on the loose.
