COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tyasha Harris, the point guard who helped South Carolina women’s basketball win its first national title, heads back to Columbia this week to enter the athletics Hall of Fame run by the university’s Association of Lettermen. The 2026 class is inducted Thursday, Nov. 5, to open homecoming weekend.
Harris started as a freshman on the 2017 championship team, taking over the job midway through that season, and went on to win two SEC regular-season titles and three SEC Tournament crowns. She finished with 1,340 points and 702 assists, and she is the only Gamecock to top both 1,000 points and 700 assists. Her 702 assists remain the program record, and her 220 assists in one season are still a school best.
Her senior team went 32-1 and ended the year ranked No. 1, but never got a shot at another title because the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled during the COVID pandemic. Harris is now in her sixth WNBA season and plays for the Indiana Fever. In a school profile published this week, she said Dawn Staley gave her the news by phone and that she was shocked and honored.
This year’s class is the first to include entire teams. Both baseball teams that won national titles, in 2010 and 2011, go in together, along with former football coach Steve Spurrier, the program’s winningest coach with an 86-49 record over 11 seasons.
The rest of the individual inductees are women’s soccer goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo, women’s tennis standout Ingrid Martins, soccer forward Savannah McCaskill, swimmer Tomas Peribonio and track and field thrower Bert Sorin.
