HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Big news is coming from the Hilton Head Island Airport! On average, the airport handles around eight flights each weekday, while Saturdays can be bustling with up to 28 flights! Airports Director Jon Rembold shared that the current terminal, which dates back several decades, was built for a different time – created for smaller aircraft and a lower passenger volume. “We’ve really felt the pinch inside the terminal building,” Rembold said. “It’s in need of updates.”

The plan involves a significant expansion, which will add thousands of square feet to the existing terminal. Stephen Bell, a local resident, and his wife, regularly fly out of Hilton Head Island Airport for vacation trips about three to four times every year. “It’s really convenient for us,” Bell commented, sharing their excitement for the upcoming improvements. “It really will become a bigger regional airport, which will make us a stronger community.” Local enthusiasm for the project seems to be shared by many who rely on the airport for their travel needs.
