Women’s Golf Closes Play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – March 6

The University of Alabama women’s golf team concluded their participation at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, finishing in 15th place overall with a team total of 879 strokes across the three-day, 54-hole tournament. The Crimson Tide was led by Sarah Edwards and Kaitlyn Schroeder, both of whom finished tied for 40th place with matching scores of 6-over par 219.

Coach’s Reflection

Head Coach Mic Potter shared his thoughts on the team’s performance, stating, “We had a decent start and finish, but the middle round took us out of the tournament. We must hit more quality shots at critical times and convert our opportunities more often if we are going to compete for championships.”

Round Three Highlights

Sarah Edwards made a significant jump in the leaderboard by carding a low round of 1-under 71 in the final round, finishing tied for 40th place. Kaitlyn Schroeder also concluded the tournament tied for 40th place with a 54-hole total of 6-over par 219. Elina Sinz finished a stroke behind Schroeder, tied for 49th place at 7-over par 220. Taylor Kehoe moved up eight spots in the final round to finish tied for 60th place at 9-over 222, while Mattison Frick rounded out the UA golfers tied for 77th place. Harriet Lockley, competing as an individual, finished tied for 63rd place overall.

Team Results

None of the 17 teams in the field finished under par on the 6,369-yard Long Cove Club course. Arizona State emerged as the team champion with a slim 1-stroke lead over Northwestern. Auburn, South Carolina, and Arkansas rounded out the top five teams in the event.
