A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Upstate South Carolina including Greenville, Anderson, Laurens, Pickens, and Spartanburg counties. The storm is bringing high winds up to 60 mph and potential hail. Residents are advised to seek safety in interior rooms and stay updated on weather alerts. As the storm moves northeast, areas such as Easley, Greer, and Simpsonville are at risk. Additional warnings have been issued for neighboring counties, emphasizing the need for caution and awareness during this intense weather event.
It’s a stormy Saturday night in Greenville as the skies unleash their fury over Upstate South Carolina! The National Weather Service (NWS) sent out a severe thunderstorm warning at precisely 7:42 PM on June 7, and it’s not one to ignore. Folks across Anderson, Greenville, Laurens, Pickens, and Spartanburg counties need to be alert!
Anyone who thought the weather was just a mild summer breeze is in for a surprise. The expected winds could spike as high as 60 mph, and if that wasn’t enough to get people inside, they also mentioned the possibility of hail that could be as large as 0.75 inches. Now, that’s some serious weather!
As the storm rumbles through the area, meteorologists have pinpointed where it’s at. Right now, it’s making its way along a line spanning from about 7 miles northwest of Pickens to approximately 8 miles southeast of Anderson. And get this – it’s picking up speed, moving northeast at a brisk pace of 45 mph. Areas like Greenville Downtown, Easley, Pickens, Greer, Simpsonville, and Berea are expected to feel the impact!
Residents are being strongly urged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of their homes for safety. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially when these storms can bring with them such wild weather!
As if things weren’t stormy enough, the NWS issued another alert around 8:54 PM, extending to areas like Cherokee, York, Union, Chester, and Spartanburg counties. This new warning is valid until 9:45 PM, with wind gusts possibly reaching up to 40 mph and the storms also moving at about 40 mph.
Got plans in places like Shelby, Gaffney, Union, Chester, York, Kings Mountain, or even Boiling Springs, NC? It’s time to reconsider and maybe cozy up indoors. Remember that when thunder starts rumbling, it’s no time to be outside!
The **Severe Thunderstorm Watch** is currently in effect until 11 PM EDT for all of Upstate South Carolina and parts of northeastern Georgia. Did you know that there are about 25 million lightning strikes in the U.S. every year? During summer, the risk of being struck by lightning increases, particularly as storms roll in. Want to stay safe? When a thunderstorm approaches, get indoors and stay there!
A swift reminder for drivers: If you find yourself hydroplaning, know that it happens when water builds up faster than your vehicle can push it away, causing a loss of control. Drive cautiously, everyone!
If you notice damaging winds, hail, or flooding in your area, make sure to report that to the NWS right away. Your information can help incredibly during severe weather events.
So, as we ride out this stormy night, let’s remember to stay safe, keep our loved ones close, and wait for that blue sky to peek through after the thunder roars!
