Savannah Weather Update: Midweek Warmth and Potential Weekend Rain

Sunny Savannah Skies

Savannah Weather Update: A Warm Welcome to Midweek!

Hello, Savannah! As we head into the middle of the week, let’s take a look at the weather and what to expect in the coming days. Today, we can anticipate a lovely warm-up, with temperatures soaring to the mid-80s by lunchtime! If you’re out and about this afternoon, don’t forget your favorite pair of shades, as it’ll be partly sunny with highs creeping into the upper 80s. While the heat index will be hovering near 90 degrees again, the good news is that it shouldn’t feel as intense as it did yesterday. For those who are still experiencing power outages due to the heat, today should provide a bit of a relief.

Rivers on the Rise

On the water front, some of our local rivers are gradually rising as we move through the week. The Ohoopee River near Reidsville is predicted to crest near Major Flood Stage late tonight and lasting through Wednesday. While several rivers are expected to hit Minor Flood Stage, we’re not expecting any significant impacts along the Altamaha, Ogeechee, or Savannah Rivers. So, if you’re planning an outing, think about keeping an eye on the water levels!

Temperature Changes Ahead

The days ahead look pretty calm, with high temperatures hanging out in the mid to upper 80s on Wednesday. However, a gentle front is on its way, which will result in a slight drop in temperatures as we approach the weekend. By Friday, we might see highs in the low to mid 80s, along with a tiny chance of rain making an appearance. So, if you’re planning something outdoors, it might be wise to keep a lookout for any weather updates!

Weekend Weather Woes

As we look forward to the weekend, the weather will largely depend on an area of low pressure developing in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, there’s a decent chance—around 40%—that we might see at least a tropical depression form. Should this happen, we could face increased rain chances by Sunday into Monday. Just to keep it in perspective, any system that forms would be significantly weaker than what we experienced with Helene, likely just a tropical depression or a tropical storm. So, for now, there’s no reason to panic, but definitely keep your ears perked for updates as the situation unfolds.

Tropical Developments to Watch

Speaking of tropical systems, it’s worth noting that Tropical Storm Kirk is on track to become a major hurricane by the week’s end, but it looks like it’ll be staying over open water, far from affecting our beautiful Savannah shores. Additionally, another tropical wave is tracking off the west coast of Africa and is likely to become a tropical depression by the end of this week.

Cooler Days Ahead

Excitingly, cooler weather will return towards the end of the weekend and into next week, with highs expected in the lower 80s and morning lows sinking back down to the mid-60s. Definitely a refreshing change after all this heat!

That wraps up our weather chat for today, Savannah! Make sure to stay tuned for any updates, and as always, keep enjoying the lovely southern days ahead!
