SAVANNAH, Ga. – The City of Savannah is urging its eligible residents to apply for Georgia Power’s newly expanded Income Qualified Senior Discount program. The program, designed to provide financial relief on electricity bills, offers a monthly discount of $33.50 for households that meet certain qualifying conditions.
The eligibility criteria for this much-needed discount include being 65 years of age or older with a household income equal to or less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level, adjusted for household size. Wide-Scale Application
Residents fitting these eligibility credentials can apply for the power discount through Georgia Power’s official website. The application review occurs on a rolling basis, with city officials urging eligible residents to apply promptly in order to start benefitting from the discount as soon as possible. These efforts are part of the city’s broader initiatives to alleviate the financial strain on some of its most vulnerable residents amid escalating living costs.
Community Feedback Shapes the Program
According to city officials, the introduction of this expanded program came about through the city’s Office of Sustainability. The office recommended the program to Georgia Power based on the feedback obtained from community members during the city’s Energy Efficiency Workshops. These collaborative efforts aim to drive increased energy efficiency in the city, promoting both financial savings for residents and environmental sustainability.
The city’s proactive role in advocating for its residents and engaging with community feedback demonstrates a hands-on approach to municipal governance. It is hoped that such initiatives will continue to be part of the city’s strategy in addressing the broader socioeconomic issues faced by its residents.
The City of Savannah is historically renowned for its proactive approach to energy efficiency and sustainability, continually seeking out solutions and programs that benefit the community at large.
With this initiative, it continues its mission towards creating a more sustainable city that takes into account not just environmental concerns, but also the socioeconomic wellbeing of its people. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these programs and contribute towards creating a greener and more economically resilient city.
