Port Royal Honors Retiring Police Chief Alan Beach and Begins Search for Successor

Farewell Ceremony Tribute

Port Royal Says Farewell to Police Chief Alan Beach

In a heartfelt farewell, the Town of Port Royal recently bid adieu to Police Chief Alan Beach, who has officially retired after years of dedicated service. This past Wednesday, September 4th, the Town Council meeting served as a platform for officials and residents alike to express their gratitude for Beach’s contributions to the community. Now, as he embarks on a new chapter in life, the town is turning its attention to finding his successor.

Time for a New Leader

With Chief Beach stepping down, Port Royal is actively searching for a new police chief. The search has been honed down to three talented finalists, and the ultimate decision rests with Town Manager Van Willis. Excitement is in the air as the town prepares to welcome a new leader in law enforcement who will continue to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Port Royal’s residents.

Meet the Candidates

Among the finalists, one shining star is already familiar with the community. Captain Andre Massey is currently serving with the Port Royal Police Department and is the only in-house candidate vying for the position. Bringing a wealth of experience, Massey is a Marine veteran who proudly served from 1986 to 1998 before joining the police department in 1998. His long-standing commitment to the town makes him a strong contender to take over the reins.

The next candidate bringing a rich background to the table is Jeffrey Meyers. Recently retired from the Fort Myers Police Department in Florida, Meyers transitioned to that role after 24 years with the South Euclid, Ohio Police Department. An impressive resume accompanies him; he graduated from the esteemed FBI National Academy and earned credentials from Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, alongside a degree in Criminal Law from Bowling Green State University. After his retirement in 2023, he has remained active by working part-time as a consultant.

Last but not least, we have Kevin Pierce, who brings substantial experience from his time as the Chief of Police for the Borough of South Coatesville Police Department in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Pierce has a strong educational background as well, having attended Villanova University and the Valley Forge Military Academy & College. He also holds a master’s degree in Administration of Justice from Wilmington University. After serving from 2017 until his retirement in September 2024, he has recently taken on a role as the Director of Security and Transportation for Hilton Head Preparatory School.

What Comes Next?

The three candidates are slated to meet with town officials and community members on September 11th. This opportunity will allow residents to gauge how each candidate interacts with the community they would serve. It’s a crucial part of the selection process, as it’s essential for the next police chief to build a good rapport with the townspeople of Port Royal.

The energy is palpable as the town looks ahead to this important decision. Chief Beach’s departure marks a significant moment in Port Royal’s history, but with dedicated candidates like Massey, Meyers, and Pierce stepping up, the future of the police department looks promising. Residents are encouraged to engage in the process and support the search for a leader who can uphold and advance the values and safety of the community.
