Hilton Head Island – Voting is now open for The Island Packet’s High School Football Player of the Week, following the conclusion of the seventh week of the high school football regular season. Fans have the opportunity to cast their votes until Friday at noon, with the winning player set to be announced on the Island Packet’s website Friday afternoon.

The Player of the Week polls are designed for fun and are not scientific. Coaches are encouraged to participate by nominating their players for consideration by emailing [email protected]. The nominees for this week include a diverse group of talented athletes who showcased impressive skills and made significant contributions in their games.

Nominees for Player of the Week

• Thaddeus Czarnecki, RB/LB, Hilton Head Island: The junior had an outstanding performance with 21 carries for 187 yards and three touchdowns on offense. On the defensive side, he recorded seven tackles (two for loss), a sack, and an interception.
• Josh Gibson, QB, Thomas Heyward: The senior quarterback excelled, running for three touchdowns and throwing for another in a decisive win over Patrick Henry.
• Malcolm Gordon, LB, Bluffton: In the victory against Beaufort, the junior linebacker made 10 tackles (three for loss) and contributed with a sack.
• Aedan McCarthy, QB, Bluffton: This senior completed 21 of 28 passes for a remarkable 478 yards and one touchdown while also rushing 13 times for 47 yards and three touchdowns in their win over Beaufort.

• John Paul II Offensive Line: This unit, comprising LT Griffen Spencer, LG Spencer Murphy, C Payne Campanella, RG Russell Spencer, RT Will Debrovner, and TE Sean Phalen, played a vital role, helping the Warriors rush for 440 yards and five touchdowns in the victory over First Baptist.
• Michael Poole, LB, May River: The sophomore made a significant impact with six tackles (one for loss), a sack, and quarterback pressure in the win over Colleton County.
• Taishun Smith, QB, Ridgeland: The junior quarterback threw for three touchdowns with a completion rate of 20-of-28 passes for 227 yards while also rushing three times for 19 yards in the win against Denmark-Olar.
