Beaufort County Council Seeks Volunteers for Local 3% Accommodations and Hospitality Tax Advisory Committee
The Beaufort County Council is currently inviting residents to volunteer for the newly established Local 3% Accommodations and Hospitality Tax Advisory Committee.
Committee Formation
On October 14, 2024, the County Council approved a resolution to create the committee, formalized under Resolution No. 2024/54.
This action aligns with Chapter 66, Article II, Division 2, Section 66-41 et seq. of the Code of Ordinances for Beaufort County, South Carolina.
Committee Purpose
The Local Accommodations and Hospitality Tax Fund’s mission is outlined in Ordinance No. 2024/13 and 2024/15.
This program is responsible for managing revenue from:
- 3% local accommodations tax (A-Tax) on tourist lodging
- Hospitality tax (H-Tax) on prepared meals and beverages
Guidelines for the expenditure of these tax revenues are specified in:
Sec. 66-44 for A-Tax
Sec. 66-534 for H-Tax
Member Qualifications
To qualify for the Advisory Committee, individuals must:
- Have experience in hospitality and accommodations
- Possess substantial knowledge of Beaufort County’s Local 3% Accommodations and Hospitality Tax expenditures
Current members of Beaufort County boards, commissions, and agencies are particularly encouraged to apply.
