BEAUFORT, S.C. — Beaufort Academy survived the opening round of the high school football playoffs by a single point Friday night, slipping past Lee Academy 35-34 to keep its season going.

Hardeeville also moved on, winning a low-scoring defensive game over Dixie, 7-0.

Other Lowcountry teams were not as fortunate. May River fell 37-21 at the hands of Conway in the first round of the state playoffs, ending the season for the Bluffton program.

On the independent school side, Thomas Heyward Academy was shut out 34-0 by Clarendon Hall, and Cross Schools dropped a 42-7 decision to Williamsburg Academy.

Across the rest of the state, the night also produced lopsided wins elsewhere, including Green Sea-Floyds topping Ridge Spring-Monetta 72-48 in one of the highest-scoring games of the round.

Elsewhere around the coast, Porter-Gaud held off Laurence Manning 15-10 and Fort Dorchester beat Wando 34-24.
