# Free Thanksgiving Dinner Returns to Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Hilton Head Island neighbors looking for a shared holiday meal can again take a free seat at Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks on Thursday, Nov. 26.

Serving runs from 11 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon at 1 Hudson Road. Guests do not need to book ahead. The meal costs nothing; people who can give are asked to donate.

Roughly 300 helpers cover parking, welcomes, plating and other jobs. Tables run family style with hosts seated with guests, and solo diners are as welcome as large parties. The kitchen keeps serving anyone still queued at 3 p.m., weather or not.

Organizers list turkey and ham with stuffing, mashed potatoes, greens and cranberry conserve, plus pumpkin and apple pies and banana pudding. Seconds are fine; carryout boxes and drinks with alcohol are not.

Cash given online or at the door is split among Deep Well, Bluffton Self Help, plus Second Helpings. The gathering began in 1999 with about 500 plates after local leaders set out to feed people who had nowhere else to go. Golf carts can ferry guests with mobility needs from the lot, and seats near the door are held for those who need them.
