HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — A law firm with deep roots in New York has picked Hilton Head Island for its first foothold in the Southeast. Phillips Lytle LLP has combined with TaberPatrick PC, a corporate law boutique based on the island, and turned it into a Phillips Lytle office.

The new office is at 1000 Main Street, Suite 200C. It is the 10th office for the midsize firm, which also practices across New York and in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Canada.

Jonathan P. Taber, who started TaberPatrick in 2017, will run the Hilton Head office. He is a former Phillips Lytle partner who once led its corporate practice group, and the two firms have shared clients and referrals for years. Isaac Sternheim, previously senior counsel at TaberPatrick, comes along as special counsel.

The island team will focus on business transactions, including company sales and purchases, joint ventures, investment deals backed by private equity or venture money, and corporate governance, for clients that range from young start-ups to global firms.

Managing Partner Douglas W. Dimitroff said moving into the Southeast is central to keeping up the growth the firm has seen in the Northeast and Midwest. The firm plans to start with clients in nearby parts of South Carolina and Georgia and to recruit more attorneys, practice groups and firms across the region.
