HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is coming to Hilton Head Island on Tuesday, Oct. 20, as the keynote speaker for the 30th Annual State of the Region put on by the island and Bluffton area chamber.

Suzanne P. Clark, who runs the national business group as its president and CEO, is expected to talk about the business climate from a Washington, D.C., point of view and how national issues reach local companies and the wider economy.

The program then turns to the region itself. Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry will speak, as will Mayor Larry Toomer of Bluffton and Mayor Harry Williams of Hardeeville. Beaufort County Council Chairwoman Alice Howard rounds out the local panel, with each leader giving a view of where their community stands.

Bill Miles, who leads the local chamber as president and CEO, said the yearly event has given area businesses three decades of direct access to the leaders shaping the Lowcountry.

Lunch is served at the Hilton Beachfront Resort & Spa, which sits at One Hotel Circle. Guests can arrive at 11 a.m., and speakers begin at 11:30 a.m. Chamber members and anyone else in the community may attend, though advance registration was required, with an Oct. 15 deadline.
