# Hilton Head Island’s First Aldi Nears Opening, Starts Hiring

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Hilton Head Island is close to getting its first Aldi. The discount grocer has finished building its store at 80 Mathews Drive on the north end of the island, and the company says the location will open in the coming months, though no date has been named.

The store sits on roughly three acres inside Sea Turtle Marketplace, just off William Hilton Parkway. Town design reviewers signed off on the project in early 2025, and the building now has its sign up and a parking lot along its east side.

Aldi is already staffing up. Its careers site lists openings tied to the Mathews Drive address for a full-time store associate, a full-time assistant store manager and a part-time store cashier and stocker, with the full-time posts marked as new-store jobs.

Once the doors open, the island location plans to run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. Thomas Sachtler, a regional vice president for the chain, said the company would share the opening date and grand opening plans when they are set.

Shoppers in Beaufort County have had other options for a while. The chain opened in Bluffton in 2023 on Fording Island Road and added a Beaufort store in October 2025.
