HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island holds its 10th annual Gullah Food Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the museum grounds at 12 Georgianna Drive.

Plates of Lowcountry standards such as conch stew and shrimp and grits anchor the day. Local vendors, music and cultural demonstrations round out the program, which the island’s visitor bureau describes as a celebration of the foodways and heritage of Gullah families who have lived here for generations.

Storytelling is a big part of the lineup. Aunt Pearly Sue is set to perform, and Sister Corora Miller will present portrayals of Harriet Tubman. Guests can also tour the museum’s blue house, which is 94 years old, and families will find a section set aside for children along with arts and crafts.

Tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for youth ages 5 to 15, plus a small service fee when bought online through the museum.
