# Hilton Head Island Tops 4A Lower State RPI Before May River Game

Hilton Head Island, S.C. — Hilton Head Island sits atop the Class 4A Lower State in the latest MaxPreps RPI rankings heading into the final month of the high school football regular season, with a rating of 0.71535.

North Augusta is second at 0.69392 and Lugoff-Elgin third at 0.67561. May River is 10th in the Lower State at 0.56365, Bluffton is at 0.45709 and Beaufort is at 0.37124.

The rankings matter more than ever this fall. All five classifications will be using RPI for seeding for the first time, after only Class 4A and 5A used it the past two years. The RPI factors in wins, losses and strength of schedule.

In Class 4A, 24 teams make the playoffs, split into Upper and Lower State brackets, with Regions 5-7 in the Lower State. Region champions in each bracket get a bye.

The Week 9 Region 6 slate on Friday puts May River at Hilton Head Island in a matchup of two Lower State playoff contenders. Colleton County visits Bluffton and Lucy Beckham travels to Beaufort in the other Region 6 games.
